Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. has announced Charley Freericks as the new President of their Phoenix Region, where he will spearhead the continued development of Teravalis.
A Veteran Leader at the Helm
Charley Freericks is a distinguished figure in Arizona’s real estate scene and brings over four decades of expertise to his new role at Howard Hughes. His career is marked by substantial contributions to large-scale community developments across the state, encompassing all facets from acquisition and planning to design and implementation.
Before his latest appointment, Freericks served as Senior Vice President at Catellus Development Corporation, leading the transformative Novus Innovation Corridor project on Arizona State University’s Tempe Campus. This 355-acre urban redevelopment is set to include 12.5 million square feet of mixed-use commercial space, embodying the cutting-edge of urban planning and sustainability.
“Charley’s decades of leadership and deep commitment to Arizona will be a tremendous asset to our company as he oversees the development of Teravalis—the innovative master planned community that is meeting the ongoing market demand for homes in one of the country’s most rapidly expanding metro regions, and supporting long-term sustainable growth throughout the Phoenix West Valley,” said David O’Reilly, chief executive officer of Howard Hughes.
As the incoming president, Freericks will oversee the continued development of Teravalis and its promise to redefine modern living in Arizona. Under Freericks’ leadership, Teravalis will eventually house 300,000 residents and offer 55 million square feet of commercial space, making it a cornerstone for economic and residential growth in one of America’s fastest-growing regions.
The first phase of this grand vision is Floreo, a village within Teravalis set to open in 2025, which will initially provide up to 8,500 homes. Freericks’ leadership is expected to drive the project toward its vision of innovation and sustainability, reflecting Howard Hughes’ commitment to creating exceptional living spaces.
A Commitment to Community and Sustainability
Freericks is a real estate veteran and a prominent figure in both community development and philanthropy. His active involvement with the Arizona Community Foundation and leadership roles in local non-profits, like the Fighter Country Foundation, showcase his dedication to enriching Arizona’s community fabric.
As a member of the Urban Land Institute since 1985, he has been active on both the local and national level. He has also led numerous projects that focus on creating vibrant, eco-friendly, and socially responsible communities. Freericks’ approach often integrates innovative strategies that enhance both the environmental footprint and the quality of life for residents.
Looking Forward
Freericks expressed enthusiasm about his new role, highlighting his plans to collaborate closely with surrounding communities and numerous local partners.
I am excited to join Howard Hughes and work with the Phoenix regional team as we collaborate with the city of Buckeye, the state of Arizona, and our many local partners to ensure the continued growth and success of Teravalis for generations to come. Teravalis will be Arizona’s next great community at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, providing the exceptional lifestyle for which Howard Hughes communities are known.
