Celebrating Homeownership: Stories from Teravalis Residents

Being one of the first homeowners in a brand-new community means embracing the opportunity to grow alongside it. 

For Marvin, that opportunity was Teravalis. As one of the earliest residents to call the neighborhood home, he’s experienced Teravalis in a way few others have—from attending the grand opening to welcoming new neighbors and watching the master plan become reality. 

Here’s a look at what drew Marvin to Teravalis and why he’s excited to be part of its future. 

Buying Into a Vision 

Marvin first heard about Teravalis through a friend and decided to visit during the community’s grand opening. While the homes initially caught his attention, it was the long-term vision for the community that left the biggest impression. 

“It was an experience unlike any other. We felt welcomed… Seeing the seven different builders was an awesome experience.” 

The thoughtful master plan, commitment to preserving the Sonoran Desert, and focus on building around the natural landscape all stood out immediately. 

As someone who has always loved the outdoors, Marvin felt an immediate connection to the landscape. 

“Home is, to me, Teravalis. Just having the natural landscape of the Sonoran Desert… it just feels like home.” 

Rather than replacing the desert, Teravalis embraces it, allowing residents to experience Arizona’s natural beauty as part of everyday life. Native plants, trails woven throughout the neighborhood, and views of the surrounding White Tank and Belmont Mountains all help create a setting where the outdoors become part of everyday living. 

Marvin says he’s always appreciated the Sonoran Desert, especially its natural animal paths, native cactus, and open landscape. Seeing how Teravalis preserves and respects the beautiful elements of the desert environment reinforced for Marvin that this community was unlike anywhere else. 

Finding More Than a House 

When it came time to choose a home, Marvin was taking every aspect into account. 

Location, efficiency, affordability, and quality all played an important role, but he also wanted a place that felt different from the communities he’d experienced before. When choosing a builder, he focused on efficiency, quality, and name recognition, selecting the home that best matched what he was looking for. 

That same balance extended beyond Teravalis itself. Buckeye offered exactly what he had hoped to find. 

Living away from the congestion of larger cities has become one of his favorite parts of everyday life. He appreciates the quieter surroundings, the open desert landscape, and the feeling of having room to breathe while still being close enough to enjoy everything the Valley has to offer. 

As Marvin explains, 

“People would be surprised that it’s really not a far commute. It’s still close enough where you can go enjoy a basketball game downtown or drive to California. To me, it’s centrally located for my purposes.” 

That combination of convenience and breathing room has reinforced his decision, making home feel more intentional from the very beginning. 

Building a Community Together 

Being an early resident has given Marvin a unique opportunity. He’s not only watching Teravalis take shape—he’s helping shape it. 

He’s embraced opportunities to meet neighbors through events hosted at the Welcome House and through the Teravalis Connect app. Marvin even started a community basketball group, creating another opportunity for neighbors to spend time together and making connection part of everyday life at Teravalis. 

He believes those opportunities are what make the neighborhood feel different. 

“It’s a community that promotes community engagement.” 

Over time, those everyday interactions have turned neighbors into friends. Community events, volunteer opportunities, and activities throughout the neighborhood continue to strengthen those relationships, creating the welcoming atmosphere Marvin was hoping to find. 

Watching the Future Unfold 

One of the most rewarding parts of living at Teravalis is seeing the neighborhood evolve in real time. 

“It’s exciting. I never thought I’d be a first resident and have these opportunities to see a community, not just grow, but have a vision that is beyond my expectation.” 

Every time Marvin leaves home and returns, he notices something new. Another home under construction. Another family moving in. More progress on future amenities like the Echo community center. 

He’s especially looking forward to the Echo community center, future schools, parks, and gathering places that will continue bringing residents together. Marvin laughs that the gym will probably become his “second home,” and he’s excited to see each new phase come to life. 

Looking ahead, Marvin sees himself growing alongside Teravalis. He hopes to continue investing in the neighborhood while watching it develop into everything he imagined when he first arrived. 

More Than a Home 

Every time Marvin returns home, he sees another reminder of why he chose to be here—from new homes and new neighbors to the steady progress happening throughout the community. 

As Marvin puts it, 

“It continuously exceeds my expectations… We come in, engage here. This is home.”
